Shaped to Serve Vol. 1
Did you know God created you for a life of service? Each of us has been called by God to serve a specific purpose. However, He will not call on you to do something without providing the necessary tools to get your job done. You have been SHAPED to Serve. What does that mean? Pastor Claudette breaks the word SHAPED to an acronym with each letter representing a different aspect of how God has equipped you to answer and perform when called by God to serve your purpose.
The first letter “S, “ according to Pastor, stands for the spiritual gifts God has bestowed upon us. The book of Ephesians chapter four, beginning with verse seven reads, “This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”
Verse 11 states, “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” We are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus for works of service.
“By My Heart and Compassion “
First John, chapter three, verses 16-20 begins with “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” It goes on to say, “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.”
This Scripture falls in line with Pastor Claudette’s break down of how we are shaped to serve for the Lord. She uses the acronym SHAPED to explain how God has prepared us for service. In the previous sermon, she declared that the letter “S” represents how we are shaped to serve by our spiritual gifts. The focus of this sermon is the letter “H.” The “H” stands for our hearts. We are shaped to serve by our hearts and our compassion for our fellow man. Sometimes, we are shaped by the pain in our hearts. Sometimes heartache can drive us to fulfill our purpose in that we can serve others by helping them avoid the sale heartache and injury that we survived.
“Attitude is Everything “
Pastor Claudette has broken the word SHAPED into an acronym in which she explains what it means to be shaped to serve. The third letter, “A, “ has three meanings. Pastor compares the other three “A's” to the AAA auto club. Membership in the auto club guarantees that if you ever find yourself in an car crisis such as a flat tire, running out of gas, getting lost or experiencing some sort of mechanical breakdown, they will provide you with the necessary assistance to get you back on the road again. Similarly, when you are diligently serving God’s people, there may be times when you find yourself feeling like a used car. AAA membership in God’s club will provide you with three crucial ways God has shaped you to serve.
The first “A” stands for aptitude. You are shaped to serve by your capacity to hold on to whatever’s needed to fulfill the purpose God has called on you to fill. Ability is what the second “A” represents. Pastor defines ability as the power at work inside of you. It is a key component of how you are shaped tl serve. The last “A” stands for attitude. You are shaped to serve by your attitude. And, Pastor Claudette says, attitude is everything.
